In order to have a great experience and effective results, there are a few steps to follow:
Do not wax, tweeze, thread or use epilators for 3 to 4 weeks before your scheduled appointment. The reason is that we want the laser to reach the hair follicle and if you have already pulled the root of the hair out, there is no access to it for effective treatment.
Do not bleach your hair for 1 to 2 weeks before your scheduled visit. The laser needs to "see" the pigment in the hair to recognize it.
Shave the area you are having laser hair removal the day before or a few hours before your scheduled treatment. This is very important because the laser has certain amount of energy. If there is hair outside the skin (long hair) the energy of the laser is wasted on the outside hair and there will not be enough energy to reach the follicle. Also, the risks are higher due to the heat generated by absorption of the laser energy by a longer hair compared to the short hair that you have right after shaving. If there is need to touching up on the shaving, there will be a charge, so you save money too! If there is no one who can help you with shaving an area contact our office so we can make special arrangements.
Please remove lotion, sparkling powders, deodorant and make up from the areas you want treated.
Tanning is also not allowed before and for a few days after the treatment. The reason is that when there is increased pigment of the skin, it competes with the pigment of the hair and the laser does not know which one is hair and which one is skin. That will decrease the effectiveness and increase the risks of laser hair removal. You ask for how long? That depends on how well you tan and how long you keep it. It is best to have your normal skin color at the time of treatment.
